All your scholarship, all your study of Shakespeare and Wordsworth would be in vain if at the same time you do not build your character and attain mastery over your thoughts and your actions. - M.K. Gandhi

HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY

The Taman Rama School Bali is one of the schools established and operated by the Yayasan Taman Mahatma Gandhi which currently has four schools in Indonesia. The Mahatma Gading School in Kelapa Gading Jakarta, the Taman Rama School Bali in North Denpasar Bali, the Taman Rama Jimbaran in Jimbaran Bali and the Asian International School in Jimbaran Bali.

Based on the experienced gained in Jakarta the Taman Rama School Bali was opened to make the high standard and extended curriculum offered by a ‘National Plus’ school more accessible to people in Bali.
From the very beginning the school has focussed on the ‘plus’ in ‘National Plus’ always seeking to develop educational programs of the highest standard to meet the needs and aspirations of young people looking forward to a ‘global’ future.

The school achieved its ‘A category’ status (highest standard of National Plus school in Indonesia) in 1999 and has maintained that standard each year since. But the school has never rested on its laurels and has continued to develop its programmes in the pursuit of excellence in education. In 2002 the Taman Rama School implemented its first Cambridge International Examinations programme, the O’ Level programme. In doing so Taman Rama became the first registered Cambridge International Examinations Centre in Bali. In 2006 the school replaced the O’ Level programme with the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programme.
In the same year Taman Rama implemented the Cambridge International Primary Programme (CIPP), another first for Bali and the very first Cambridge Primary registered in Indonesia.

The Taman Rama School produced Bali’s first ever Cambridge Advanced Level (A’ Level) graduates in 2006. The school continues to monitor and evaluate its programs and seek new ways to develop and improve. More recent developments include specialist TESOL classes in the National program and inclusion of the ICE and AICE certificates in the Cambridge programs.

While high academic standards and achievement are the necessary goals of any school they are not in themselves sufficient as they reflect but one aspect of human endeavour and development. The Taman Rama School follows Gandhian principles as its guiding philosophy and endeavours to imbue a sense of honour, honesty and humanity in all of our students. At the Taman Rama School the development of character, self discipline and a sense of social responsibility is seen as an essential part of our role as a place of learning and growth.

IF I HAD MY CHILD TO RAISE OVER AGAIN:

I would build self-esteem first
And the house later.

I would finger paint more
And point the finger less.

I would do less correcting
And more connecting.

I would take my eyes off my watch
And watch with my eyes

I would care to know less
And know to care more.

I would firm less often
And affirm much more.

I would model less about the love of power
And more about the power of love.
