The Cambridge Secondary 1 programme (Years 7 & 8) is a framework for educational success for students between 11-14 years old. It provides a natural progression for children from primary education, and builds on from Cambridge Primary to develop your child's knowledge and skills in English, Mathematics and Science. Curriculum frameworks and assessment objectives are set by the CIE and can be accessed by teachers through the Cambridge Secondary web site.
We consider English Language to be the most important subject within the overall Cambridge International Examination Programme. All subjects that are offered are taught using the medium of English, so it is imperative that Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening skills are properly developed, and English Literature is an essential part of the English Language subject.
Mathematics also depends upon successful knowledge of English Language as Mathematics questions are written in English; without understanding the question the student won't be able to solve the problem. Similarly General Science, which covers Biology, Chemistry and Physics, is taught using English.
As well as English, Mathematics and Science our curriculum also includes Commerce, Geography, History, Information Technology, Religion and Art and Culture. Indonesian Language is mandatory and French, Mandarin or Japanese are available as foreign language options.
At the end of Year 8, students will make important choices, in consultation with teachers and parents, on which IGCSE subjects they will study in Years 9 & 10 and therefore which IGCSE examinations will be taken in year 10.
The programme equips students with the skills and knowledge they will require when they reach the next stage of education; IGCSE. Key benefits of the Cambridge Secondary 1 programme:
