THE SCHOOL’S IDEOLOGY - A CALL FOR VALUES
Children around the world are increasingly affected by violence,
growing social problems and lack of respect for each other and the
world around them. Parents and educators in many countries are asking
for help to turn around this alarming trend. Many of them believe
part of the solution is an emphasis on teaching key personal and
social values like: Cooperation, Freedom, Happiness, Honesty, Humility,
Love, Peace, Respect, Responsibility, Simplicity, Tolerance and
Unity.
“You may be highly educated but if you lack culture,
you cannot earn respect in society. Even if you are highly intelligent,
you cannot get adoration of people without morality. You may be
occupying a position of authority, but if you cross your limits,
how can people respect you? Without charity and righteousness and
without following the path of truth, how can you expect people to
honour you?”
With this philosophy in mind, coupled with Gandhian ideals and
Pancasila principles, the School Management came to Denpasar to
the call of people who migrated as a result of riots in Jakarta
and other places in Indonesia in 1998. Taman Rama School was called
upon to help in the humanitarian causes. Ahimsa International Foundation
which runs the Asian International School belongs to the same group
as the Yayasan Taman Mahatma Gandhi that runs the Taman Rama School
at Denpasar.
